Nick at Nite will be commemorating the life and legacy of Matthew Perry tonight. According to Deadline, the tribute will be called Matthew Perry: Thanks for Being a Friend and will air at 10 p.m. ET/PT. This particular segment comes after the beloved Friends star passed away unexpectedly yesterday.
The special will broadcast some never-before-seen interviews with Perry as well as behind-the-scenes moments from the set for the last 35 years and stories about Perry’s most memorable moments as Chandler Bing, and it will also highlight the loving bond he had with his co-stars.
As the special is only half an hour, Nick at Nite will then air some coveted episodes of Friends where fans can see Perry in his iconic role as Chandler Bing. The channel will also run Friends episodes all next week through Nov. 5, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Friends first aired in 1994; the widely popular show follows a group of close friends living in their twenties in New York City. The six characters are siblings Ross and Monica Geller, played by David Schwimmer (Madagascar, The Wonder Years) and Courteney Cox (Cougar Town, Shining Vale); Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry, who was also in 17 Again and Birds of America; Phoebe Buffay, played by Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback, Easy A); Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show, Horrible Bosses); and last but not least, Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc (Man with a Plan, Lovesick)
The series was made by David Crane (The Class, Veronica’s Closet) and Marta Kauffman (Grace and Frankie, Dream On.) Crane and Kauffman also executively produced the show with Kevin Bright (On These Grounds, Best and Most Beautiful Things) under the Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions, part of Warner Bros. Television.
Crane, Kauffman and Bright released a joint statement yesterday after the news of Perry’s passing broke.
“We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment – not just to his work, but in life as well. This truly is The One Where Our Hearts Are Broken.”
Rest in Peace, Matthew Perry.
