Ahead of its anticipated premiere next week, Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again is already assembling cast for its second season. Comicbook reports Matthew Lillard will join the Disney+ series featuring Charlie Cox (Stardust, Treason) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Godfather of Harlem, Law & Order: Criminal Intent).
In an exclusive first reported by Deadline, Lillard’s history of roles in films like Scream and Five Nights at Freddy’s allude to him possibly being villain for Matt Murdock. However, no details about his character or the season’s storyline have been revealed.
Daredevil: Born Again was originally announced as a reset for the heroic character, but after being stalled by the dual labor strikes in 2023, the series experienced significant creative makeover. Today the series will serve as a sequel to the 2015 Netflix series, with many of the original cast members reprising their roles. Cox will play Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the blind legal eagle by day who serves as the crimson-colored vigilante by night. D’Onofrio returns as his archnemesis, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Both actors made their official Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts on Marvel TV shows. Cox cameoed in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law while D’Onofrio reprised his role twice: he appeared in Hawkeye and its spinoff, Echo.
Born Again reunites viewers with Murdock as Fisk undergoes a mayoral run for New York City. When a new enemy rises, the two adversaries will become strange bedfellows. In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, the show will include Deborah Ann Woll (Escape Room, Quantum Leap), Elden Henson (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Intelligence), Jon Bernthal (We Own This City, The Bear), Wilson Bethel (All Rise, Hart of Dixie) and Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel, Angels & Demons). Woll and Henson play Murdock’s best friends and firm partners, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson while Bernthal returns to play Frank Castle aka The Punisher. Bethel will reprise his role as the villainous Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye. Zurer returns to play Fisk’s wife, Vanessa.
Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Tuesday, March 4 only on Disney Plus.
