According to Yahoo, Marvel’s Zombies is set to have an earlier release date than expected on Disney+. Showrunner Bryan Andrews (Samurai Jack, What If..?) noted the change in an interview with Collider. While the exact details behind the decision were not discussed. The new release date is September 24th, moved up a week from October 3rd.
Yahoo has reported that the series will take place in an alternate reality in which many of Marvel’s heroes are forced to take on a zombie apocalypse. It draws inspiration from the fifth episode of the anthology series What If…?, a timeline in which the events of Ant-Man And The Wasp and Avengers: Endgame go awry, resulting in a similar zombie apocalypse. The series will see many of Marvel cast members voicing their live action counterparts including Katey played by Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings, The Farewell), Red Guardian played by David Harbour (Thunderbolts. Stranger Things), Shang- Chi played by Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings, Barbie), Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision, Avengers: Age Of Ultron), Jimmy Woo played by Randall Park (WandaVision, The Interview), Yelena played by Florence Pugh (Thunderbolts, Little Women), Kate Bishop played by Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye, Pitch Perfect), Riri Williams played by Dominique Thorne (Ironheart, Freaky Tales), and Ms. Marvel played by Iman Vellani (The Marvels, Ms. Marvel), with Hudson Thames (What If…?, The Secret Lives Of An American Teenager) as a variation of Spider-Man.
Via Yahoo, in addition to showrunning, Andrews will take on a directing role, and Zeb Wells (Robot Chicken, Deadpool & Wolverine) wrote the screenplay. Wells will also be serving as an executive producer on the series. Andrews shared in a press release that the series will contain some more “hardcore” and “pretty wild” zombie sequences than its inspiration, What If…? Episode five.
