Marvel’s ‘The Inhumans’ Names Its Showrunner

A familiar face is joining the behind-the-scenes work of the upcoming Marvel movie and show, The Inhumans. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Scott Buck, who currently serves as the showrunner for Marvel’s Iron Fist, which is due on Netflix sometime in 2017, will also be serving as showwrunner for The Inhumans.

Buck has also served as showrunner on Dexter for the final three seasons of the show. He’s also worked on Six Feet Under, Rome and Coach.

The Inhumans, which was first released in comic form in 1965, are some of the more recognizable characters in the Marvel universe. The comics focus on Black Bolt and the royal family and the upcoming ABC show and IMAX experience will likely do the same.

ABC is moving forward fast as a way to get the show to both the big and small screen. The Inhumans will premiere the first two episodes (of the eight total planned) in IMAX theaters starting on Sept. 4. The first two episode will be in over a thousand theaters and will be in 74 different countries.

Following the two weeks that the two episodes will be in theaters, the show will move to ABC, where it will finish out its episode run.

The IMAX/television crossover was first announced back in November when it was announced that ABC was giving The Imhumans a straight-to-series order, which means it’s able to bypass the pilot stage that the majority of shows on TV have to go through. There’s still no word on casting, but now that a showrunner has been announced, casting announcements may start coming out soon.

The announcement of a new Marvel show on ABC could not have come at a better time. Back in May, ABC canceled Agent Carter and scrapped plans for Marvel’s Most Wanted. ABC’s lone Marvel show on the air, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is down in the ratings this year after moving from the 9 p.m. Tuesday night timeslot to the 10 p.m. Tuesday night timeslot, which is a timeslot that ABC struggles with.

The most recent episode, which aired on Dec. 6, scored a 0.8 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and was watched by 2.48 million viewers. That put the show in third place for the 10 p.m. hour, behind the 100th episode of Chicago Fire (1.7 rating and watched by 7.71 million viewers) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.2 rating and watched by 9.30 million viewers), according to TV by the Numbers.

ABC may be hoping that a combination of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Inhumans will help the ratings of the show improve.
