Marvel’s ‘Runaway’ Series Has Been Greenlit by Hulu

It’s been a fairly profitable day for Hulu.

Variety reported that the streaming service has officially greenlit Marvel’s Runaways, the latest series in all things superhero. The show follows the story of a group of teenagers who find out that their parents have banded together in an evil and undoubtedly illegal organization.

Runaways is based on elements from the original comic book series. Casting has already been well underway, and all six leads in the teen ensemble have already been announced: Lyrica Okano, Gregg Sulking, Ariela Barer, Rhenzy Feliz, Virginia Gardner, and Allegra Acosta. Runaways has been said to balance the power of superheroes with a coming-of-age twist, as the teens must put aside their differences to defeat their parents’ organization.

The series is being adapted by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who previously worked on teen-focused programs like The O.C. and Gossip Girl. The pair will be working as showrunners, executive producers, and writers. Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will also work alongside Savage and Schwartz.

This is Hulu’s first foray into the Marvel universe. Netflix was formerly the place to be for Marvel fans, since it hosted such superhero shows as Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and more recently, Luke Cage. However, now nerds everywhere will soon have their pick of streaming services to satisfy their Marvel fix.

Ashley Dize: I've been a nerd since I was a child, but I like to think I'm getting better as it as I'm getting older. I earned a degree in English with a minor in Film Studies from the University of Georgia in 2017, and am using my love of writing and television to share the stories of what's happening in the television industry.
