Netflix’s Daredevil purists can rejoice as much of the gang is getting back together for the upcoming Marvel revival series. Deadline reports Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie, All Rise), who portrayed the nemesis Bullseye/Benjamin Pointdexter, has joined Daredevil: Born Again at Disney+. The series, set for a 2025 premiere, is currently in production.
Bethel joined the Netflix original series in the third season, posing as Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s archenemy. Hired by Vincent D’Onofrio’s (Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Godfather of Harlem) Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Bullseye masked his identity as a faux devil of Hell’s Kitchen, helping build a campaign against the vigilante. Bullseye is an expert marksman with almost any object, making him a volatile adversary.
According to reports first filed by Comicbook, Bethel is to appear in three episodes of the series. Initially ordered for 18 episodes, recent reports stated the first season will be shortened. The season may resemble the 13-episode run of the original Netflix series.
The anticipated series recently made waves with reports that Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, Escape Room) and Elden Henson (Idle Hands, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1), who played Charlie Cox’s (She-Hulk, Stardust) best friends, Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, are also slated to return. Original reports said the actors were not involved with the project. They will be joined by Jon Bernthal’s (Origin, The Bear) Frank Castle aka The Punisher.
According to Deadline, new faces for the series include Arty Froushan (Carnival Row, The Persian Version), Michael Gandolfini (Beau Is Afraid, Cherry), Margarita Levieva (In From the Cold, The Deuce), Nikki M. James (Proven Innocent, Severance), and Sandrine Holt (The Crossing, The Returned). Both Cox and D’Onofrio are back as well with their characters and timeline having officially become canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Originally slated for release this year, the project was delayed due to last summer’s writers strike. According to Deadline, this pause saw an overhaul of the series, including changing of showrunner and general direction. Dario Scardapane (Posse, Memory) was brought in to lead the series after the departures of Chris Ord (The Brave, Containment) and Matt Corman (Covert Affairs, Deck the Halls).
Cox and D’Onofrio’s characters were recently featured in the five-episode series, Echo, starring Alaqua Cox. The show was spinoff of Hawkeye, which first reintroduced Kingpin back into the MCU. It was also Marvel’s first TV-MA-rated project. Somewhat of a test for what many fans hope to see in Daredevil: Born Again.
