During the 2020 Disney Investors Day, it was revealed during the Marvel presentation that another series will be coming to Disney+ in the future in the form of Secret Invasion. The series will be based upon a series of comic books under the same name. Currently, the streaming television adaptation will center on a group of Skrull aliens that have ingrained themselves into society in leadership and other high-ranking positions as a backdoor threat to deteriorate the world. Following its announcement, fans expressed concerns whether the series adaptation will stay true to the canon of the comic books themselves.
The President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige commented on these concerns, particularly the inclusion of all the comics’ characters, during the preparation for the premiere of the first Marvel and Disney+ series WandaVision on January 15. “There were more characters in the Secret Invasion comic series than there were in Endgame, so, no,” said Feige via ComicBook. “ It’s not that but it very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelson and tapping into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series that was great with the twists and turns that that took.”
For the upcoming Secret Invasion television series, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) will be reprising his role as Nick Fury in addition to Ben Mendelson (Bloodline) joining on as Talos. Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) is set to be the series head writer. Currently, it is unknown when the series will be released for Disney+, but it is included within the slate of numerous new and upcoming television shows to be streamed on Disney+ from Marvel.
