Marvel released in a Deadline exclusive that they are putting production to a halt with three new live action TV series. Marvel Studios head of TV Brad Winderbaum (Thor: Love & Thunder) shared in the article the difficulties when working with a mass amount of content. “We’re developing more than we make now, so we actually have a few different things brewing that we might see through to at least a pilot script to see if we want to make it,” “But, there’s a lot of opportunity out there, it’s hard to choose favorites… We’re really being careful about what we choose to do next.”
In addition to working on multiple projects, Marvel changed their approach when it comes to pitching a new idea. Deadline shares Marvel’s old approach would be announcing the new shows in the works through comic con. Fans knew to expect multiple titles to debut at these events dating their projects years in advanced. Now, the company process goes straight to a quieter approach. The reason for this is that the industry is always changing. As a company, it is crucial for development to change with the industry.
The shows we won’t see hit the small screen were Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. These characters were all popular comics dating back to 1976. The first announcement of the shows was back in 2022. Nova is based on a superhero who works for a celestial space force called Nova Corps. Nova Corps must protect the universe at all costs. The series went as far as pulling in Ed Bernero (Crossing Lines) as Show-runner and Writer. Strange Academy is on the newer side of comics as it debuted in 2020. This series follows the beloved character Dr. Strange and his Sidekick Wong. Strange and Wong take in kids with magic abilities and teach them how to control their abilities. Terror, Inc is something we haven’t seen yet in a superhero adaptation. The comic focuses on the character Terror with an unusual ability. This superhero can inherit body parts of other people which then allows him to take on their memories and abilities.
Even though we won’t see these shows anytime soon, Marvel is still producing content. Tune into the season finale of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+. As well as new up and coming shows Iron Heart, and Wonder Man.
