Marvel is developing a series based off one of the comic franchise’s oldest heroes, Wonder Man, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is being developed with Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings) serving as executive producer and Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) serving as head writer.
Development for the series, which is currently titled Wonder Man, is in the early stages but filming could start as soon as 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s oldest characters, dating back to the 1964, which he first appeared in the comic Avengers No. 9. Wonder Man was initially a villain and only appeared occasionally in the Marvel comics throughout the rest of the decade. In the early 1970s, he was transformed into a hero and a member of The Avengers.
The character started becoming more prominent in the 1980s. His real name is Simon Williams, a founding member of the Los Angeles-based West Coast Avengers. He had a signature look that included a turtleneck, a red jacket and sunglasses. Williams became a celebrity thanks to his day job as an actor and stuntman in the comics. He also had strong ties to Vision and Wanda/Scarlet Witch, who fans may know from Disney+’s recent Marvel series, WandaVision.
Although The Hollywood Reporter reports that filming could begin in 2023, it is still unclear when the series will begin filming or when the upcoming show could be released. It’s also unclear as to who could be starring in the show.
