Mark Strong Set To Star In Fox Spy Drama ‘Deep State’

You are being watched, America. If that makes you uneasy, at least take the slightest comfort in the fact that it’s by Olivier Award winner Mark Strong, who has just joined the cast of Fox’s Deep State according to The Hollywood Reporter. Strong is set to take the lead in the program from Fox Networks Group Europe and Africa.

Strong is set to portray Max Easton, a former espionage extraordinaire set on avenging the death of his son. Easton finds himself caught up in a lasting intelligence war which conspires to cash in on chaos. The series seeks to expand on the duality of resistance. Though the lens can often drift too far to one side or another, the people and conflicts on both sides of a war are often equally enthralling.

The series plans to take viewers on a journey to various destinations. Along with the States, Europe and Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon and Iran will also be featured. Easton’s quest for revenge and truth takes him to some very dark places, and viewers can expect some due gravity.

As for the script, written by Matthew Parkhill, Simon Maxwell, and Steve Thompson, Strong considers it a home run. “Every now and again a script comes along that you just can’t put down and Deep State is exactly that — a great example of the best kind of writing.” Showrunners and producers feel the same way about Strong, an actor known for his cerebral approach to roles.  Executive producer Hillary Bevan Jones, whose Endor Productions is taking charge, spoke to the traits which make him perfect for espionage. “As an actor, Mark Strong has the intelligence, power and subtlety to realize troubled characters in the most extraordinary way. We are absolutely thrilled to be working on this drama with Jeff Ford and Sara Johnson at Fox Networks Group.”

Deep State is expected to go into production in May and will be aired worldwide on Fox. Until then, stay tuned with mxdwn Television for more information regarding the upcoming espionage thriller.
