Excitement grows for Regular Show fans, as they anticipate the recently announced revival of the beloved animated series with the recent announcement that Mark Hamill (Star Wars) has announced involvement with the revival, according to ComicBook. Hamill revealed his return to the character of Skips at Fan Expo Chicago, which was reported by Pop Verse.
Hamill verbally expressed his desire to return to the show, according to ComicBook, “[Rigby’s voice actor] William Salyers DMed me. He said, ‘Did you hear the news? I’m just worried, are you in or not?’ As if I’ve somehow outgrown them. I wrote him back saying, ‘There is only one Skips, and he’s very much looking forward to meeting with his old pal Rigby.’ He sent me a gif of somebody dancing with joy.”
Hamill spoke lovingly about the series, noting that he still loves its comedy despite the network’s oversight in making more adult jokes. He explained further, “I enjoyed it…It’s got kind of a Beavis and Butthead vibe in that it’s about these two losers who are highly critical of everyone else, Mordecai and Rigby. I didn’t think that one would go. If it were on Adult Swim and they could make pot references and stuff, that’s one thing, but this is for kids” according to ComicBook.
Regular Show first debuted in 2010 and follows best friends Mordechai and Rigby and a colorful cast of coworkers at their park job. The series can be quite surreal at times. Despite the grounded setting of a park and its workers, the witty and often irreverent writing is a favorite amongst fans. The show has only continued to grow in popularity since its initial release, leaving fans ready for the revival.
Although there is no set release date for the revival, fans – especially Hamill — hope it moves forward as soon as possible. With its confirmation and star power, the project is moving along swimmingly.
