The indie filmmaking brother duo Mark and Jay Duplass will have a new comedy series coming to HBO this summer, Deadline reports.
The series, titled Room 104, will be an anthology comedy series set in merely one room in an average American motel. It will center on the array of different characters that happen to pass through. Actors that are set to star in the series include Jay Duplass himself (a common move from the actor/writer/director, who virtually always shows up in Duplass brothers productions) Hugo Armstrong (Coherence), Philip Baker Hall (Magnolia, The Truman Show), Orlando Jones (Drumline), James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) and Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Palo Alto). An array of directors will be involved in the series as well, including Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson, The Affair), Ross Partridge (Wedlock), and Doug Emmett (cinematographer for The Edge of Seventeen and the Duplass’ HBO show Togetherness).
The Duplass brothers have become a heralded pair in the indie filmmaking realm, known for their charming, funny, and emotionally affecting work. They began by producing such films as as Safety Not Guarenteed, Creep, and Bluejay, and have now begun work in television as well. The brothers, along with Steve Zissis, created the HBO series Togetherness which ran for two seasons but was then cancelled in March of last year. Mark and Jay Duplass are currently producing another HBO series, Animals, which is currently airing its second series. Jay Duplass shared a brief teaser this past week on his Twitter account to announce the upcoming series.
Room 104 will be comprised of 12 episodes and will premiere on Friday, July 28 at 11pm on HBO.
