E! News host Maria Menounos will be stepping down from her role following the announcement she made on instagram about a brain tumor she’s currently battling. After learning of her diagnosis in April, Menounos went through a seven-hour surgery removing almost all of the tumor, she told People magazine. The news comes as her mother is battling brain cancer.
“I want you all to know that I’m ok!” Menounos wrote in her lengthy instagram post. “Seriously I’m recovering well and should be as good as new very very soon!” Though the star said she won’t need further treatments, the future looms uncertainty for her mother, who was pictured in the post as well, Variety shared.
“I cried like a baby saying goodbye to the amazing nurses who took such good care of me. God bless nurses!” Menounos went on to thank the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was treated, as well as People magazine.
Before her three-year hosting duties at E! News, Menounos was a correspondent for Access Hollywood and Today, and co-anchored on Extra. Menounos told Inside Edition “My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.” She told People that she was getting lightheaded on set, having multiple headaches, leading to the removal of a golf ball-sized tumor.
Menounos has appeared in multiple films and TV shows including Fantastic Four, Tropic Thunder, and Entourage. She currently operates an online entertainment network, AfterBuzz TV with her director/producer husband Kevin Undergaro.
