Kate Winslet (Ammonite) stars as a tortured detective solving a murder mystery in the first trailer for the HBO limited series Mare of Easttown, via Entertainment Weekly. The seven part series will debut Sunday, April 18 at 10 p.m. E.T.
Winslet portrays Mare Sheehan, a local detective in a small Pennsylvania town who is well past her glory days. Jean Smart (Watchmen, Fargo) is also featured prominently throughout the teaser as Mare’s tough love mother Helen, Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys) plays Mare’s daughter, Julianne Nicholson (I, Tonya) is Lori Ross, Mare’s best friend, John Douglas Thompson (Michael Clayton) plays police chief Carter, and Evan Peters (American Horror Story) briefly appears as detective Colin Zabel, who’s helping Mare work the case.
The rest of the cast includes Neal Huff (The Wire) as Mare’s cousin Father Dan Hastings, James McArdle (Ammonite) as Deacon Mark Burton, Cailee Spaeney (Devs) as a troubled teen living with her erratic father, portrayed by Patrick Murney (Seven Seconds), and David Denham (The Office) as Mare’s ex-husband Frank.
The series is created and written in its entirety by Brad Ingelsby (The Way Back, American Woman). Craig Zobel (The Hunt, The Leftovers) directed all seven episodes. After airing on HBO, episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max.
