Marc Maron Joins Cast of Netflix’s ‘GLOW’

Even though Marc Maron’s IFC series Maron won’t be returning for another season, Maron himself won’t be leaving the small screen anytime soon, as he’s just joined the cast of Netflix’s new wrestling comedy-drama, GLOW.

GLOW – an acronym for “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” – was created by Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black) and Liz Flahive (Homeland). The show is based on a women’s professional wrestling league created in the 1980s, and stars Alison Brie (CommunityMad Men) as Ruth, an aspiring actress who joins the eponymous league as a way to live out her dreams of fame and stardom.

Maron will play an out-of-work Hollywood director named Sam Sylvia, who according to the Hollywood Reporter “has a very complicated history with women — and now must lead 14 of them on the journey to wrestling stardom”. Maron played a similarly washed-up version of himself on Maron, so this role should be a good fit for him. Not to mention his moustache already looks like it’s straight out of the 1980s.

GLOW, which is also executive produced by Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan, will consist of 10 episodes when it’s available to stream on Netflix. An official release date has yet to be announced.
