Hogwarts is almost in session. The new series has announced much of the youth cast via Instagram. One of the many delights of the original movies was that the cast grew alongside the production, so, in many ways, it felt as if fans were watching them grow. The shorter run time of the movie series necessitated cutting much of the book, and many characters within Hogwarts did not make it into the film. The new television series does not have that issue, and many characters will be introduced.
The new cast members include, Eire Farrel (Tin Solider, Barbie) as Katie Bell, Asha Soetan (Odd Squad, The Friend) as Angelina Johnson, Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Serrena Su-Ling Bliss (Industry, The Boys In The Boat) as Alicia Spinnet, Ethan Smith as Lee Jordan, India Moon As Hannah Abbot, Jazmyn Lewin as Susan Bones, Cian Eagle-Service (Dexter Procter: The 10 Year OId Doctor, The Prince Of Egypt: Live From The West End) as Ernia Macmillian, James Trevelyan Buckle (Goodby June) as Justin Finch-Fletchy, Aaron Zhao as Terry Boot, Eve Walls as Lisa Turpin, Scarlet Archer as Penelope Clearwater, Eddison Burch as Miles Bletchley, James Dowell (The Magic Faraway Tree) as Lucian Bole, Oliver Croft as Marcus Flint, Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey, Henry Medhurts as Peregrine Derrick, Cornelius Brandreth (Lord Of The Flies) as Terrance Higgs, Laila Barwick (The Pope’s Exorcist) as Pansy Parkinson, D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu (Rocks, The Nevers) as Graham Montague. For movie-only Harry Potter fans, many of these names may be unfamiliar. The only names that immediately jump off this list from the original movies are Oliver Wood, who captained the Gryffindor Quidditch team in The Sorcerers Stone, and Padame Patel, who had a somewhat prominent role in The Goblet Of Fire. Many of these actors are early in their careers and thus will be making their debut.
Some have argued that Harry Potter does need a revival, since the original movies were well-made and beloved by many fans. A new series, if done improperly, could tarnish the memory of the originals. Although the clear expansion of the named Hogwarts student cast would likely operate as a clear argument in favor of the new series.
The author of the original series, J.K. Rowling, has also mired herself in controversy after multiple posts and comments targeted at the trans community. Many do not believe in continuing to support her work. Rowling would likely be considered a T.E.R.F or Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist.
