Mandy Patinkin Joins Cast Of ‘The Good Fight’ For Fifth Season

Emmy-winning actor Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) is slated to join the cast for the fifth season of the Paramount+ drama The Good Fight, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe series is a spinoff of the 2009 drama The Good Wife, which follows Alicia Florrick’s, played by Julianna Margulies (ER), journey of humiliation and betrayal after a political scandal lands her husband in prison.

The Good Fight is set a year after the events in the final episode of The Good Wife and follows a similar series of events when a financial scam ruins the reputation of lawyer Maia Rindell, played by Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones). She must pick herself back up by starting at the bottom and joining forces with one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms. The spinoff reprises Christine Baranski’s (Mamma Mia) role as Diane Lockhart and Matthew Perry’s (Friends) role as Mike Kresteva. Now a series regular on the show, Patinkin will play the role of inexperienced Hal Wackner who decides to open a court in the back of a copy shop, resulting in confusion from the lawyers at Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart who must follow judgments that hold no legal weight.

Creators Robert King (Evil) and Michelle King (Evil) expressed excitement for Patinkin’s debut on the series, “We are the biggest fans of Mandy’s stage, screen, and now YouTube work, so we couldn’t be more excited for him to play Wackner. We only worry that he’ll have less time to do his fantastic work on Youtube,” via The Hollywood ReporterThe actor is most well-known for his role on Homeland, which earned him four Emmy nominations as Saul Berenson. Meanwhile, he won an Emmy in 1995 for his role in Chicago Hope while he has also appeared in titles like Criminal Minds and Dead Like Me.

Being cast in The Good Fight will reunite Patinkin with Baranski, whom he starred alongside in the original off-Broadway production of Sunday in the Park with George in the 1980s. Once it moved to Broadway, Patinkin received a Tony nomination for his role. All four seasons are available to stream on Paramount+ with a fifth on the way.
