According to Deadline, Prime Video has announced four new additions to its second season of Amazon original series The Wheel of Time. During a panel at JordanCon, Maja Simonsen (The King’s Man, Treadstone), Ragga Ragnars (Vikings, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla), Jay Duffy (Handsome Devil, Playground), and Rima Te Wiata (Housebound, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) were cast with recurring roles.
Simonsen is a Danish model and actress. She will be portraying Chiad, a “Maiden of the Spear of the Stones River sept of the Goshien Aiel who is bonded as a first-sister to Bain,” via Deadline. Bain will be played by Ragnars, an Olympic swimmer-turned-actress from Iceland. Duffy is an Irish actor whose character is an officer of the Children of the Light named Dain Bornhald. Wiata is a singer, actress, and comedian from New Zealand. Her role will be Sheriam Bayanar, “an influential Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah.”
The drama, created by Rafe Judkins (Uncharted, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), is based on a collection of novels of the same name by Robert Jordan, who is also known for the Conan the Barbarian series, and then finished by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn, Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians) after Jordan’s passing. It is “set in a high fantasy world where magic exists, but only some can access it, a woman named Moiraine crosses paths with five young men and women,” via IMDB, “This sparks a dangerous, world-spanning journey.”
The series was renewed for a second season months ahead of the season one premiere in November 2021 and was renewed for a third season last year, before a release date for season two had even been reported.
