Main Star And Creator Teased Chaos And Twists Await In ‘Squid Game’ Season Three

The popular Korean drama series Squid Game received major update from its main star, Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte), who plays Gi-hun, and the series creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk (Silenced), who teased that the upcoming third season will be chaotic and filled with more twists than in the previous ones. According to Deadline, the second season has obtained an outstanding 68 million views in just three days from its release date and became the No. 1 non-English series, crossing 92 countries.

The premise of the second season takes place three years after the previous season when Gi-hun returns to stop the games. According to Deadline, other returning characters that will join him are Officer Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-joon (Gyeongseong Creature), and The Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun (Red 2). Not only does the second season introduce new games, but it also introduces a new group of contestants, which includes Lee Seo-hwan (The Beast) as Jung-Bae, Kang Ae-sim (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) and Park Sung-hoon (The Glory) as Hyun-Ju.

During an interview with Deadline at this year’s Golden Globes, the two stated, “In Season 3, slightly different than Season 1 and 2, there’s going to be more twists and turns and more conflict between the characters — something a little bit different, more complex,” the show’s star said. “It’s going to be chaotic and you are not going to know where we’re taking you.”

According to Deadline, season three is expected to delve deeper into the mysterious organization behind the deadly competition and explore the motivation behind continuing it. It will surely take place after the events of the previous season, in which the contestants revolted and fought back against the guards of the games; unfortunately, it ends with Gi-hun and his companions failing and the Front Man shedding his disguise.

While awaiting further information surrounding the release date of the third season, fans can watch the entire first and second seasons on Netflix.
