Although, there was no telling as to why shows were interested in doing a crossover series. It was said that Peter Lenkov, the mastermind behind the revival of Magnum P.I., Hawaii Five-0, and MacGyver was interested in doing a crossover even before Magnum P.I. was even a possibility. Hawaii Five-O team has appeared on other shows including NCIS: Los Angeles, MacGyver and now Magnum P.I.

The decision to the crossover now as opposed to later is due to the fact that MacGyver is set to take Magnum’s Friday time slot to premiere its fourth season at the beginning of February, 2020. The crossover episodes are nearly complete but still in its post-production stage. The first episode of the mini crossover with begin with Hawaii Five-O and end on Magnum P.I. since both shows share the Friday night period with Hawaii Five-O airing at 8pm and Magnum P.I. after at 9pm. Showrunner and Executive Producer for both of the Hawaiian based shows, Peter Lenkov says “It’s big-stakes story that really feels like a two-hour movie,” (TV Insider)

The crossover storyline will be about tack team Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks) following a suspect they believe to be related to an on-going case. As so happens, Hawaii Five-O’s Steve (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) also happen to be tracking a lead in their investigation which will lead to a connection with Magnum and Higgins suspect. The crossover cannot be complete without featuring the rest of the cast of both shows including Rick (Zachary Knighton) and TC (Stephen Hill), Junior (Beulah Koale), Tani (Meaghan Rath), and Quinn (Katrina Law).
