Netflix’s hit thriller series You has welcomed a new actress to its fifth and final season, Madeline Brewer (Orange Is the New Black, The Handmaid’s Tale). According to TVLine, Brewer will be a series regular and is set to portray the character Bronte.
Initially reported by Deadline, Brewer’s character is described as an eccentric playwright who finds herself working at Joe’s bookstore. The pair apparently connect when Bronte invokes feelings in Joe that cause him to reflect on his life.
Season four of You saw Joe moving overseas to London after faking his death to become a college professor named Jonathan Moore. However, that all changes as the season progresses, and he can’t seem to shake his old ways. Now, Joe is back where it all started: New York City.
With Joe back, the direction of where the season could go is unpredictable and may bring back some old characters like Dr. Nicky, as portrayed by John Stamos (Full House, Big Shot), or Ellie, played by Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream).
TVLine notes that former showrunner Sera Gamble (The Magicians, Company Town) sat down with them after season four wrapped to say, “We have kept scrupulous track of everybody who knows anything about Joe who’s not dead.” Gamble then clarified that “the ones who are dead could still appear in dreams and hallucinations. There are some very smart people who are alive. Some of them are in jail, and some of them are basically in witness protection, but there’s no reason to believe he’s safe.”
A set date for You season five has not been released, but the show is anticipated to debut sometime this year. While the official trailer is still on the way, the streamer dropped a season five teaser last year.
