According to Deadline, Lynn Whitfield (Madea’s Family Reunion, Jaws: The Revenge) will be series regular on The Chi moving forward. Starting the seventh season, the actress went from guest star to a regular on the series as Alicia. Alicia is an intimidating, fearless and powerful matriarch whose objective is to avenge her brother, who was murdered. She not only loses her brother but her son as well, played by Iman Shumpert (Under His Influence, Teyana Taylor: Concrete), during an altercation with rival villain Douda, played by Curtiss Cook (West Side Story, Shutter Island).
The Chi premiered back on January 7, 2018, and has spanned six seasons, with a seventh on the way. The series follows a number of events that send shockwaves through a community on the Southside of Chicago. These events connect the lives of Emmett, Brandon, Ronnie and Kevin in unexpected ways. In June, they finished up their sixth season, which set a new record for the series.
As per Deadline, the sixth season of The Chi held onto momentum between part one and part two of the recent season. In May, the 12 episodes released for the sixth season scored close to two million across several platforms, four percent more than when the first episode of the season aired.
