AMC has a new series based on the British mini-series by the same name that is set to premiere on August 11. Low Winter Sun will star Mark Strong (“Body of Lies”, “Kick-Ass”, “Zero Dark Thirty”) and Lennie James (Jericho, Lie to Me). The series follows the Detroit underworld as cops and criminals become one and the same with series opening with a Detroit detective, Frank Agnew (“Strong”), murdering a fellow cop.
Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Cold Case) is the writer, executive producer and show-runner. Some have the hopes that this new series will potentially replace Breaking Bad with a promising teaser that was released in March.
This will be Strong’s first leading role in a series, though he has previously proven himself in many movies including his role in “Zero Dark Thirty” in which he delivers a powerful speech. AMC’s new series shows much potential, particularly in replacing one excellent morally blurred show with another.
