Los Angeles Filmmakers On After-Hours Filming Ban

Following a rise in COVID-19 cases within the state of California, Governor Gavin Newsom announced last week that a statewide curfew and prohibition of personal gatherings and nonessential activities between 10 pm. and 5 am. would be implemented until December 21. Resultantly, the city of Los Angeles put out new filming restrictions on Wednesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The new filming limits would follow California’s current Stay at Home order through prohibiting after-hours filming. FilmLA, an organization which distributes film permits in the region stated, “Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles have advised FilmLA that filming will not be restricted to the hours between 5 am./7 am. and 10 pm., as previously announced….Filmmakers are highly encouraged to stay within those limits, if feasible, and be mindful of community impact while California’s Limited Stay at Home Order is in effect,” via The Hollywood ReporterThe new guidelines stated that on-location filming hours would range from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in residential areas and 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. in commercial areas. Any activity must be wrapped up by 10.

Any permission that was given to film after-hours are to be rescinded. California’s Stay at Home Order will conclude on December 21, which is when the film and television industry plans on rebooting regularly scheduled production.
