During the release of the fourth episode “The Nexus Event,” Disney+’s and Marvel Studios’ Loki unveiled a monstrous reveal concerning the show’s supposed villains, The Time Keepers, during its final moments. After the introduction of the Time Variance Authority or the TVA in its first episode on June 9, the standalone God of Mischief original series made it appear that titular characters would be opposed against the supposed Time Keepers that control the sacred singular timeline. Yet, in their first appearance in the series, it becomes known after Sylvie, portrayed by Sophia Di Martino (Casualty), decapitates one of them that they are in fact androids, controlled by another entity.
The basis of Loki has been primarily set on Loki’s, played by Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager), the pursuit of the downfall of the three Time Keepers that supposedly limit his ability to access free will and chaos within worldly actions. However, their status as androids presents that there is another nefarious character lurking within the Marvel Studios’ original that is responsible for policing a singular, sacred timeline. Paired with the realization for many TVA agents that they are in fact former variants transformed into agents, there appears to be an unknown entity that is affecting the course of events within the series.
After this reveal, Loki features two of its main cast in the final moments of “The Nexus Event,” Sylvie and Renslayer, with the former holding the latter captive at its close. Renslayer, portrayed by Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Black Mirror), has apparently been pulling the strings and protecting the interests of the Time Keepers, but might be up to something more and carry greater involvement for either another villainous character or herself for that matter.
With a mid-credit scene accompanying this recently released episode, the remaining two episodes of Loki will be released on Disney+ exclusively on the next two Wednesdays.
