In a reimagining of the 1987 thriller film, Paramount+ will release an adaptation of Fatal Attraction starring Lizzy Caplan (The Interview), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film follows Dan Gallagher, played by Michael Douglas (The Kominsky Method), who becomes entangled in a massive affair that escalates from a casual fling to a threat to his family after his mistress shows her true colors.
The new Paramount+ series will explore themes like infidelity and marriage through the lens of more modern views of feminism, mental illness, and control. Caplan will play the role of Alex, Dan’s mistress. She was played by Glenn Close (101 Dalmatians) in the original film. The adaptation will be written and executive produced by Alexandra Cunningham (Dirty John), alongside Kevin J. Hynes (Perry Mason).
“Alexandra brings an incredibly strong and nuanced point of view to a story that became a cultural phenomenon but has thus far only been told from the male gaze,” president of original scripted series at Paramount+, Nicole Clemens, said. “Partnered with Kevin, they will bring the next explosive chapter of this story to a new generation with a balanced eye to the complexities of the human psyche,” via The Hollywood Reporter.
Fatal Attraction joins the list of upcoming Paramount+ originals, including Happy Face, The Good Fight, The Offer, Evil, The Game, and Mayor of Kingstown. A premiere date or further cast details have still not been released.
