HBO’s The Comeback, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, is rounding out its cast for the show’s highly anticipated third and final season. Joining Lisa Kudrow (Friends, Web Therapy) in the Emmy-nominated comedy are John Early (Search Party, Other People), Abbi Jacobson (Broad City, A League of Their Own), Barry Shabaka Henley (Collateral, The Terminal), Tony Macht (NCIS: Hawai‘i), Brittany O’Grady (The White Lotus, Little Voice), Zane Phillips (Glamorous, Fire Island), and Julian Stern (Star Kid, Raymond & Ray), who will make his television debut.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that the additional additions represent a successful conclusion for the meta-comedy, which debuted in 2005. Kudrow’s character, Valerie Cherish, was a comedy actress from the early 1990s who was desperate to regain her prominence in a shifting entertainment industry. The series initially followed Cherish.
The Comeback, which Kudrow and Michael Patrick King created, has received praise for its humorous portrayal of reality TV and the stresses of aging in Hollywood. Along with returning regulars Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman, and Damian Young, Kudrow will return for the forthcoming third season.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO referred to the final episodes as “a heartfelt and emotional farewell to one of television’s most self-aware comedies,” though plot specifics remain under wraps. Over the past twenty years, the series has cultivated a dedicated following, and its 2014 second season was widely praised for its sharp, nuanced portrayal of celebrity culture. The outlet also reported that HBO described The Comeback as “a story about resilience and reinvention,” adding that the network is “thrilled to bring Valerie Cherish’s journey full circle with this exceptional cast of guest stars.”
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, fans can expect the new season to blend mockumentary-style humor with the poignant themes that have made the series a critical favorite. Production is currently underway, with a 2026 premiere expected on HBO and streaming on Max.
The Comeback has remained one of Kudrow’s signature roles, alongside her work in Friends and Web Therapy. Early and Jacobson’s addition underscores the show’s ongoing commentary on performance and authenticity in a media-saturated age.
