According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lisa Kudrow (Friends, The Comeback) will lead merry band of time-traveling thieves in Apple TV+’s new fantasy series Time Bandits. The series is an adaptation of the 1981 film of the same name. The streamer has also revealed a new official trailer for the upcoming series, as seen below.
“Nothing is too big for us to steal,” Kudrow’s character, Penelope, explains to the series’ hero, Kevin, an 11-year-old history buff and the central child star played by Brit actor Kal-El Tuck (Andy and the Band, Unseeing Evil). “OK, now that we’re close, maybe it is too big to steal,” a deadpan Penelope says in an otherwise absurdly comedic scene in the trailer as she, Kevin and her crack team of robbers come upon a giant Trojan horse about to enter medieval city gates.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Time Bandits will involve characters traveling through time and space as they experience different adventures at every turn. They adventure through time to plunder treasure, whether they end up in the vast future or the distant past. The series is created by Taika Waititi (The Mountain, We Were Dangerous) and will remake the original film by Terry Gilliam (The Zero Theorem, The Wholly Family) in 10 parts.
The rest of the cast includes Tadhg Murphy (Boy Eats Girl, Apocalypse Clown) as Alto, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (You Don’t Know Me, Tomb Raider) as Widgit, Rune Temte (Captain Marvel, The Last Kingdom) as Bittelig, Charlyne Yi (Steven Universe, This Is 40) as Judy, Rachel House (What If…?, Our Flag Means Death) as Fianna, Kiera Thompson (His Name Was Gerry, The Emily Atack Show) as Saffron, James Dryden (Ready Player One, Wicker) as Mr. Haddock, Zoe Ventoura (Doctor Doctor, The Osiris Child) as Cassandra and many others.
Time Bandits is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ this summer on July 24.
