According to Deadline, Lexi Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders) has been cast as “Elle Woods” in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series. The series titled Elle is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s (Wild, Walk the Line) Hello Sunshine.
The prequel series will focus on Elle Woods during her high school years, exploring the key moments that shaped her into the iconic and determined character fans came to adore in the original film.
Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Minetree was among the final contenders for the iconic role that was previously made famous by Witherspoon in the beloved Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).
Witherspoon shared the exciting news on Instagram, writing: “Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree.”

The show’s co-showrunner and executive producer, Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), will work alongside Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Batwoman, Gotham Nights). Additional executive producers include Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter (The Morning Show, Little Fires Everywhere, Where the Crawdads Sing), Lauren Kisilevsky (Darkness Falls, The Hard Easy, Little Black Book) and Marc Platt (La La Land, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Cruella, The Girl on the Train). Last year, Deadline reported that the show will follow “Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film. The series is set years before the events in the first movie, which kicked off as Elle Woods (Witherspoon) graduated from college and headed to Harvard Law to pursue a legal career.”
Minetree is represented by Stewart Talent, Framework and Jackoway, Austen, Tyerman.
