The Daily Show has returned with a large slew of new guest hosts. Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live) and Sarah Silverman (Saturday Night Live, Wreck-It-Ralph) are among the group of returning faces, and audiences are anxiously awaiting to see if either of the two comedians is going to be granted the permanent position as the new host.
Jones hosted back in January following the departure of Trevor Noah (Black Panther). Her positive reception from audiences has created speculation that she may be on the shortlist to be the full-time host and fill the vacant spot. But, Deadline reported that some sources have hinted that she may not want the full-time job. Silverman, who also hosted this past February, is returning as a guest host as well and she is also being eyed for the job. Deadline also was told that Comedy Central would like to see all new guest hosts do their time behind the desk before the permanent replacement is announced. It was also revealed that The Daily Show was debating having host duos and trios rather than a single person, á la Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update style. The new approach is different from The Daily Show’s usual solo host gig, but it would be a fun new way to change things up.
The shortlist of new hosts consists of names such as Chelsea Handler (This Means War), who made an appearance on the show in February as well as Hasan Minhaj (Haunted Mansion), who also hosted that same month and was rumored to become the next host prior to a New Yorker article coming about surrounding how his comedy is fabricated.
The Daily Show airs weeknights on Comedy Central at 11:00 PM. You can see the full list of Daily Show guest hosts from Deadline here:
