Lena Dunham (Girls) is set to direct and executive produce HBO’s high-finance drama Industry, Variety has learned. The show is set in the world of international finance and follows a group of twenty-something graduates competing for limited positions at a major bank in London.
She also showed a picture of herself holding the script for Industry and announced: “AHHHH! I’m so excited to announce I’m directing & executive producing a new series with @hbo called INDUSTRY.”
“It’s all about the cutthroat world of international finance. Think Wolf of Wall Street meets Melrose Place!” she said.
Dunham will direct the first episode. Down and Key will serve as writers and executive producers together with Dunham, Jane Tranter, Ryan Rasmussen (Da Vinci’s Demons), and Lachlan MacKinnon (A Discovery of Witches), Deadline reports.
“I’ve moved across the pond for the summer to shoot this – specifically Wales UK – which is a dreamy place with fairytale gardens, super sweet humans, and dragon mythology. So taking reccs on secret spots, cuisine, you name it! Stay tuned for more,” Dunham added.
HBO has ordered an eight-episode series from the Bad Wolf, Jane Tranter’s production company (His Dark Materials). The show is written by new British writers Mickey Down and Konrad Key (You, Me, The Apocalypse). Down and Key have direct knowledge of global finance.
“Mickey and Konrad’s talent, drive and commitment was obvious to us the moment we met them. The scripts for Industry have an energy and direction that comes from their first-hand experience of the trading floor and their ear for sharp dialogue immediately captured our attention. We’re excited to be making their first TV drama series with HBO – who are never afraid to make bold decisions and support new talent,” Tranter said.
The series will be shot in Cardiff (Wales), in the summer of 2019.
