Hey Upper East Siders, it’s been confirmed that Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester, who played Blair Waldorf in the CW drama series has been casted in a new role. Meester is set to star in Fox’s time traveling comedy, Making History.
The casting announcement was made on March 9.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Meester is set to play Deborah, “a self-educated colonial woman that they meet in the 18th century who espouses her modern views on gender and racial equality, which don’t quite play in 1775.”
Happy Endings star Adam Pally is also set to star in the show as Dan, the nerdy computer scientist from a small university who invented time travel. His character is described as a failure to his family and is unpopular with students and staff at the university he works at. Deadline made the casting announcement on February 24.
Pally was last seen on The Mindy Project, where he just finished a three-year stint.
The show centers on three friends who travel back in time to see major historical events, which leads to complications for them when they return to the current time period.
Making History is executive produced by Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Julius Sharp is also a producer and is also writing the pilot episode.
From 2007 until 2012, Meester starred as Blair Waldorf on the popular CW drama Gossip Girl. Her character was the queen bee of the Upper East Side teen side and was subject to much speculation by the anonymous gossip blogger, Gossip Girl, who was revealed to be Dan Humphrey in the series finale of the show.
Meester’s character of Blair was involved in one of the more popular relationships on the show (Chuck and Blair, whom fans gave the ship name of Chair to). Her character also had a relationship with Dan Humphrey during the fifth and sixth seasons of the show. When the show ended in 2012, Chuck and Blair got married and in a flash forward, it was revealed they were still together and had a son named Henry.
Besides starring on Gossip Girl for six seasons, Meester has also been in 24, House, Veronica Mars and Entourage. She also starred in movies like Country Strong and The Roommate. She is married to Adam Brody, who starred in The OC, and they have a daughter together.
