According to Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls, Parenthood), all Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) has to do is call her name and she’ll be there on the next train. In a recent interview with SiriusXM, the Lorelai Gilmore actress told EW Live host Jessica Shaw that she’s built Gilmore Girls clause into all her contracts “just in case” there’s another revival of the series, via US.
While Graham assured “I don’t want to start any new rumors,” talks of further installment of Gilmore Girls have never quite died out after 2016 Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, vis US. According to US, Graham cited her loyalty to Sherman-Palladino and the restrictiveness of acting contracts nowadays as a reason for including such a clause in her contracts.
In the throes of reboot culture, oftentimes fan favorite series will see continuations with key players missing such as Twin Peaks: The Return without Michael Ontkean (Twin Peaks, Slap Shot) or Frasier’s current reboot moving forward with no sign of David Hyde Pierce (Frasier, A Bug’s Life). Graham’s recent interview assures Gilmore Girls fans that they’ll never have to worry about having the series continue without the fast-talking and coffee-addicted Lorelai.
In fact, US reported that the main reason why another trip to Gilmore Girls’ Stars Hollow has been put on hold is due to the cast’s current schedules. Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life gave fans many reasons to hope for more from the mother-daughter-duo Lorelai & Rory, especially after the series’ shocking final four words were finally unveiled, leaving a string of questions about Rory’s pregnancy.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused some recent overlap in Graham’s schedule as she transitioned out of her role on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to face-off with Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club, The Mighty Ducks) in Disney+’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers reboot series. In her recent SiriusXM interview, Graham noted that the dynamic she shares with Estevez on-screen in the upcoming series bares similarities to the relationship between Lorelai Gilmore and Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls.
Until fans can see Luke and Lorelai reunite on-screen once more, they can catch The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers on Disney+ to see Graham once more “[try] to get a very stoic, curmudgeonly Eeyore, to like respond to [her] antics” (US). No matter what success The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers or any of Graham’s forthcoming projects finds, fans can rest assure that the door to Luke’s Diner will always be open to the actress per the Gilmore Girls clause in her contract.
