All good things must come to an end. HBO’s widely successful comedy, Curb Your Enthusiasm starring Lary David (Seinfeld), is coming to a close. But fans should fear not, as the show is going out with a bang with the new season 12 about to drop. On February 4, the show will be available to watch and stream as it comes to an end.
In the press release announcing the final season, Warner Bros tagged the comedy with the logline, “Starring Larry David as an over-the-top version of himself, the iconic Emmy and Golden Globe-winning comedy series CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM offers a tongue-in-cheek depiction of the writer/producer/comedian’s fictionalized life,” It then continues to explain the purpose of a show such as a “comedy series [that] continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one’s day-to-day life can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events. To keep the narrative spontaneous, the series is shot without a script and cast members are given scene outlines and improvise lines as they go.”
Curb Your Enthusiasm has received both high praise from comedy fans and critics alike. It has won two Emmy awards out of a massive 51 nominations. It has also been nominated for five Golden Globes, bringing home a win in that realm of awards and several wins and nominations across both WGA and SAG-AFTRA Guild Awards.
Many are sad to see the show come to an end, but David shared his thoughts on the subject to reassure fans that this is a bittersweet moment and that he is finally able to step away from the project. The statement is littered with jokes of course as he says, “As CURB comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”
Season 12’s cast will include David, along with Susie Essman (Broad City), Jeff Garlin (The Goldbergs), J.B. Smoove (Mapleworth Murders) Cheryl Hines (Suburgatory), Richard Lewis (Anything But Love), Ted Danson (The Good Place), Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers) and Tracey Ullman (Tracey Ullman’s Show).
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 will be available to watch on MAX and airing on HBO on February 4, 10:00 p.m. ET.
