Lamorne Morris Cast In MGM+ And Prime Video’s Upcoming ‘Spider-Noir’ Live-Action Series

MGM+ and Prime Video’s upcoming live-action series Spider-Noir is now joined by actor and comedian Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Fargo), according to Deadline. Morris is cast as the character Robbie Robertson and will star alongside Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario, Longlegs), who is cast as Noir.

The Spider-Noir series references the character Spider-Man Noir, who “originates from a line of  Marvel Comics placed in an alternate universe that takes place during the Great Depression era” via mxdwn. Noir appears as a supporting character in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and is also voiced by Cage.

According to Deadline, the live-action series “tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” Morris will join in as Robbie Robertson, who “is driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer. A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York, he takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.”

Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher, Hannibal) and Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat, 22 Jump Street) are set to be co-showrunners and executive producers on the new series, with Uziel also acting as a writer, reports mxdwn. Lightfoot and Uziel developed the first two episodes of Spider-Noir with executive producers Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Little Women), Phil Lord (The Lego Movie, The Mitchells vs. the Machines) and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, Clone High), all individuals who were producers on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, via Deadline. Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) is scheduled to be an additional executive producer and direct those two first episodes.

While gearing up for his role in Spider-Noir, Morris will also star in the upcoming Sony Pictures’ film SNL 1975 as Saturday Night Live original cast member Garrett Morris (2 Broke Girls, Coneheads) and continue his recurring character on Unstable, a Netflix comedy series, as per Deadline.
