It was nearly impossible to escape La La Land fever that swept through the later part of 2016. Certainly there was good reason for it; a classic-style musical that starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone seemed to be a surefire hit. Damien Chazelle was also largely responsible for the film’s success, and earned an Oscar for Best Director. According to Rolling Stone, Chazelle is now looking to television to host his next musical masterpiece.
The series has been titled The Eddy, and follows the events and gossip that occur in a club in modern-day Paris. The show will feature the drama between the owner of the club, the house band, and even Paris itself.
Jack Thorne has signed on to write for the new musical series. Thorne can be most recognized by his recent collaboration with J.K. Rowling for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a script that was turned into a successful book as well as a lucratively successful play in London. He’s also received credits for Skins, Shameless, This Is England, and The Fades.
That being said, The Eddy still hasn’t announced who will be writing the music for the series. Glen Ballard, the Grammy-winning songwriter, has agreed to become an executive producer, but no official deals concerning writing songs for The Eddy have been made public.
The Eddy has not found a home just yet, and is in the process of being shopped around to several television networks, as well as streaming services. Production has not yet begun for the series, but we can almost be assured that if Chazelle is directing that the show has a clear focus in mind.
