Apple TV+ has canceled the red carpet premiere for Severance Season two, originally scheduled for January 13 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. The decision follows this week’s devastating wildfires in the area, which have left multiple neighborhoods in ruins.
According to Deadline, “As devastating wildfires continue to impact the Los Angeles area, and with safety as our first and foremost priority, we have made the decision to cancel Monday’s Severance Season two premiere event.”
The wildfires, particularly the Sunset fire, forced the evacuation of nearby areas, including Hollywood Blvd. This prompted Apple’s action to cancel the event. Deadline reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the company’s support, stating, “Apple is donating to support the relief efforts on the ground, and our thoughts and heartfelt support remain with everyone who has been affected by these tragic fires.”
The Severance Season two premiere was slated to feature the show’s impressive cast, including Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Big Little Lies) and Patricia Arquette (Medium, True Romance). Deadline noted that this marks the latest Hollywood event to be affected by the ongoing disaster, which has forced the cancellation of major public gatherings across Los Angeles.
In Season two, Scott’s character, Mark Scout, continues to navigate the psychological and emotional consequences of the mysterious “severance” procedure, which splits work and personal memories. The ensemble cast also includes Britt Lower (Man Seeking Woman, The Mindy Project), Tramell Tillman(City on a Hill, The Deuce), John Turturro(The Night Of, The Big Lebowski), and Christopher Walken(The Outsider, The Wonder Years). Writer/creator Dan Erickson and director Ben Stiller (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Zoolander) continue to bring their unique vision to the show.
Despite the challenges, production on Severance remains strong. Deadline reports that Stiller directed five episodes in the upcoming season, joined by directors Uta Bresiewitz(The Handmaid’s Tale, The Bridge), Sam Donovan (Harlots, Doctor Who), and Jessica Lee Gagné(The Handmaid’s Tale, Penny Dreadful). Apple TV+ also has a strong production team backing the show, with multiple executive producers overseeing the project.
Severance Season two is set to premiere on Apple TV+ with its first episode on January 17, 2025, followed by weekly episodes every Friday until March 21. Fans are eager to continue Mark’s journey, even as Los Angeles faces the aftermath of the recent wildfires.
