Knuckling Down for More? Sonic Producer Hints at Season Two Possibilities

The highly anticipated Knuckles series, which will premiere this year, is the first spinoff series of the successful two-film Sonic franchise totaling $720 million. According to Comicbook, the series producer, Toby Ascher (Spenser Confidential), spoke in an interview with Paste Magazine about the future of the spinoff, and the upcoming journey for the titled character. Ascher tells Paste:

“If something is working really successfully, and we have a really great story to tell, we’re definitely going to expand on it. I don’t think there’s any closed doors on future television, future seasons of Knuckles, so everything is wide open. I think it’s important to us that we’re not just making stuff to make stuff,”

According to a previous mxdwn post, the six episode spinoff  series will make its debut on Paramount+ on April 26, and will consist of the original cast from the film which including Idris Elba (Suicide Squad) as the red echidna himself. Each episodes is specualted to run for an hour. Knuckles will display the titled character going on a journey of self- discovery, as he grows in character and power.

According to Comicbook, a possible second season has the potential of not only displaying Kunckles’s development but also further growing the franchise. Future series could be based on iconic characters such as Tails, Robotnik, and many others. This potential expansion aligns perfectly with Sega’s past approach to the franchise.

For now, fans eagerly await the release of the Knuckles series and anticipating a journey filled with a blend of action and comedy. Wether the series receives a second season remains a mystery, but Ascher’s words offer a promising outlook, suggesting that the future might hold not just one, but several spin-off shows venturing beyond the speedy hedgehog, and this strategy could not only broaden the franchise for existing fans, but also draw in new viewers.
