According to Deadline, Hulu is doubling down on its animated hit King of the Hill, handing the revival a two-season renewal with a 20-episode order. The extension secures the long-running favorite from creators Mike Judge (Office Space, Idiocracy) and Greg Daniels (Upload, Space Force) through Season 17, continuing the legacy of the beloved Texas-set series.
The hit animated revival made its comeback in January 2023 with a 20-episode pickup, marking its official return to Hulu. The first half of that order Season 14 premiered over the summer and quickly became Hulu’s biggest animated debut in recent years. As noted by Deadline, the August premiere also set a new five-year record for adult animation launches across Disney+ and Hulu, drawing 4.4 million views within its first week, per Disney’s internal figures.
According to Deadline, the revived animated series picks up with Hank Hill (voiced by Mike Judge, Idiocracy, Office Space) and Peggy Hill (voiced by Kathy Najimy, Veep, Younger) returning to a changed version of Arlen, Texas, after spending several years in Saudi Arabia working in propane to build their retirement savings. Once back home, they reconnect with longtime friends Dale (voiced by Johnny Hardwick, King of the Hill: The Movie, Delusions of Grandeur), Boomhauer (also voiced by Judge), and Bill (voiced by Stephen Root, Succession, No Country for Old Men). Meanwhile, their son Bobby (voiced by Pamela Adlon, Californication, Recess) pursues his culinary ambitions in Dallas and reunites with childhood companions Connie (voiced by Lauren Tom, Friends, Superman: The Animated Series), Joseph (voiced by Tai Leclaire, Spirit Rangers, Love Bomb), and Chane (voiced by Ki Hong Lee, Wish Upon, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials). As reported by Deadline, produced by 20th Television Animation, King of the Hill continues under the leadership of returning co-creators Judge and Daniels, joined by executive producer and showrunner Saladin Patterson (The Wonder Years, Frasier). Additional executive producers include Michael Rotenberg (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Howard Klein (The Mindy Project, The Office), and Dustin Davis (Twenties, Insecure) from Bandera Entertainment, Judge and Daniels’ production company.
Moreover, Deadline notes that the renewal strengthens Hulu’s investment in adult animation alongside hits like Futurama and Solar Opposites.
