When fans last saw the Byrdes in action, their lawyer and partner, Helen Pierce played by Janet McTeer (Me Before You), was shot and killed with Run The Jewels song, “Ooh La La,” playing in the background. Now, with season four on the way, the series has announced that Killer Mike, one half of Run The Jewels, will be making an appearance on the show.
Via StereoGum, the rapper will be joining the cast of Ozark for the final season. Although nothing has been released about his role or its duration, Billboard wrote that, “he’ll (Killer Mike) run into Emmy-winner Julia Garner’s always-on-the-make Ruth Langmore at her lowest point.” The small synopsis should bring fans hope of another killer duo alongside Jason Bateman’s (Arrested Development) Marty Byrde and Laura Linney’s (Love Actually) Wendy Byrde with the MC and the foul-mouthed Ruth.
Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, will not be making his debut in acting with Ozark. The MC had work on the standout 2017 movie, Baby Driver. He also has his own show, Trigger Warning with Killer Mike, where the rapper talks over many controversial social problems within the black community.
There have been plenty of rappers that have tried their luck with acting well into their career. The most recent example of this is New York rapper Joey Bada$$’s turn as Leon in the second season of Mr. Robot. There is also a plethora of artists, young and new, on the Starz series, Power.
Killer Mike could not hide his elation about the role. In a conversation obtained by StereoGum, the Grammy-award winning artists said, “I went from waiting to find out what happens next to being part of it…I’m excited.”
The rapper is joining the cast at the perfect time as the final season of Ozark will be even bigger. The Netflix show had announced that their last installment would be 14 episodes, up from the usual ten, and be split into two parts.
The final season of Ozark is still very early in the production process so nothing concrete on a release date or trailer is readily available at the moment.
