On Christmas Eve, former actor and subject of multiple sexual assault allegations Kevin Spacey posted minute-long video of him tending to a fire and speaking directly to the viewer. Spacey seemed to be performing as Frank Underwood, his character from House of Cards who was killed off last year during the show’s final season.
In the video, titled “KTWK”, Spacey somewhat arbitrarily pokes the fire behind him as he talks. “You didn’t really think I was going to miss the opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas, did you?” Spacey begins. “It’s been a pretty good year, and I’m grateful to have my health back. And in light of that, I’ve made some changes in my life and I’d like to invite you to join me.”
Spacey continues in what appears to be a coded plea for kindness and forgiveness towards the actor, presumably in regards to the fifteen sexual assault allegations he has faced, some of which involved minors. “As we walk into 2020, I want to cast my vote for more good in this world,” Spacey continues. “Ah yes, I know what you’re thinking. Can he be serious? I’m dead serious. And it’s not that hard, trust me. The next time someone does something you don’t like, you can go on the attack. But you can also hold your fire and do the unexpected. You can kill them with kindness.” The video ends with musical sting, which is one of the default “suspense” sound effects on iMovie (you can hear an example of it here).
Spacey uploaded a similar video last year at Christmas, with similar production and themes. Due to being the subject of so many sexual assault allegations, Spacey has otherwise been absent from social media for the past year. Spacey’s name has been in the news recently however following the suicide of one of his accusers, Ari Behn. Other alleged victims have pressed charges, but both cases were dropped after the death of one accuser and the alleged unavailability of another. You can watch Spacey’s video below.
