Kevin Smith Brings ‘He-Man’ Anime Show To Netflix

At Power-Con today, Kevin Smith announced that he is executive producing and showrunning the He-Man series for Netflix.

According to Variety, the series will be titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation and will continue to take place in the Mattel Toy inspired world. This new limited series will focus on the unresolved storylines of the 1980s show and pick up many of the characters’ journeys that were abandoned decades ago. The reboot show, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is on Netflix. The original show followed the titular princess who is the sister of He-Man. There is currently no word yet on whether or not the two shows will crossover.

Smith stated, “I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe. In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Mattel Television will be producing the show alongside Smith and executive producer Rob David, who is the vice president of Mattel TV and the author of He-Man: The Eternity War. David said, “Masters of the Universe has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within. Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a ‘Masters’ superfan himself, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”

According to Variety, the writing team include Eric Carrasco from Supergirl, Tim Sheridan from Reign of Supermen, Diya Mishra from Magic the Gathering, and Marc Bernardin from Alphas. Powerhouse Animation, who animated Castlevania, will do the animation for the show.

There has been no announcement as to when the show will be released but other anime shows Netflix  has include Castlevania, Devilman Crybaby, Aggretsuko, and Ultraman.
