According to Deadline, Kevin Kline’s (Disclaimer, French Kiss) comedy series American Classic has obtained an eight-episode series order. The show will star Jon Tenney (I See You, Closer), Michael Hoffman (The Best of Me, One Fine Day) and Bob Martin (The Prom, Puppets Who Kill). American Classic has been with MGM for a little over three years now, and the first announcement of the series came on February 3, 2022.
The series centers around Richard Bean, a Broadway star and narcissist who suffers a public meltdown and returns to his hometown glory (no pun intended), the town that made his name before making it big. When he arrives, he discovers his father has lost a step and the once-respected theater that his brother Jon and his wife now run. He decides to save the town by presenting a great American classic dinner at a theater.”
As the head of MGM+, Micheal Wright, told Deadline, “MGM+ is television for movie lovers — classic Hollywood storytelling through a contemporary lens. American Classic, with its sophisticated wit, adult characters, and unique cast, is an exciting addition to that brand. In the capable hands of Michael Hoffman and Bob Martin, alongside stage and screen legend Kevin Kline, American Classic is a hilariously funny and deeply poignant comedy, and we can’t wait to share it with our MGM+ audience.”
