Yesterday, September 21, marked twenty-five years since the premiere of the sitcom The King of Queens. The successful show ran for nine seasons from 1998 to 2007 and featured Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) and Leah Remini (Cheers). Via TV Line, James took to Instagram sharing, “25 years ago today, we aired… I am so incredibly blessed to have taken this ride with the incredibly talented Leah Remini and Jerry Stiller. I love you both so much… and thank you to the GREATEST FANS in the world.”
Doug, played by James, and his wife on the show Carrie, played by Remini, are a working-class couple. The show follows Doug, a deliveryman, and Carrie, a secretary, as they navigate life, marriage, family, and love through a comedic lens. Remini also took to social media to give praise to her co-stars on the twenty-fifth anniversary, as well as to thank fans. According to TV Line, Remini said, “I want to let you all know that I see the comments where you say that you fall asleep every night to The King of Queens – that it got you through a rough day and tough times in your lives, that you laughed for the first time in your day watching us, or that you watch several episodes a day, or that you and your family bond over watching the episodes in syndication.” In the series’ 207 episodes, the average Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes is 79%, and was nominated for People’s Choice Awards and an Emmy.
Other stars of the sitcom included the late Jerry Stiller (Seinfeld), Victor Williams (Happy Together), Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille), Gary Valentine (The Dog Who Saved Christmas), Nicole Sullivan (Kim Possible), and more.
