With the upcoming reboot of the beloved 90s sitcom Frasier at Paramount+ on the horizon, star of the series Kelsey Grammer (The Last Tycoon) had some things to say. In an interview with anchor Jacque Reid on New York’s NBC 4, Grammer revealed what’s in store for the radio talk show host, as reported by Vulture.
Any news at this point for the upcoming reboot is welcome, and Grammer was ready to spill during his interview. Frasier first aired on CBS for eleven seasons from 1993-2004. A spin-off from the hit sitcom Cheers, it followed psychiatrist Frasier Crane as he hosted a radio advice show in Seattle, while reconnecting with his father and brother. Now, the upcoming reboot will be on the streaming service Paramount+, and much is still unknown about what the series will entail.
Revealing just the tip of the iceberg, Grammer gave viewers taste of what’s to come: “Frasier’s gonna move towns. He’s gonna change cities again and uh, there’s some surprises there…He’s like the George Bailey of television, It’s a Wonderful Life. He thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough his life takes him in another direction, and he ends up rich beyond his dreams.”
Alongside Grammer, the series starred David Hyde Pierce (The Perfect Host) as Fraiser’s brother Nile, Jane Leeves (The Resident) as Daphne, Peri Gilpin (Make it or Break it) as Roz, and John Mahoney (Moonstruck) as Fraiser’s father.
Mahoney passed away in 2018, and Grammer addressed during the interview how they’ll deal with his death, and what other characters can be expected to make a return: “We’ve reached out to everybody. Ross, and Niles, and Daphne. And of course, you know John’s gone, and you know we intend to deal with that some in this first episode. But it is my hope that everyone comes back, it always was my hope. It’s a third act for everybody.”
No premiere date has been given to the reboot as of yet. In addition to Frasier, Grammer is starring in the just released 2021 films The God Committee and The Space Between. Watch the full interview of Grammer on New York NBC 4 below:
