An odd couple will be coming to FX next year, with Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence set to star in an as-yet-untitled buddy comedy about an unlikely pair of friends.
Grammer and Lawrence will play two Chicago lawyers who meet unexpectedly on the worst day of their lives and strike up a friendship. Brought together by fate and a shared greed, they struggle to find a balance between their personal and professional lives.
The multi-camera comedy has been given a ten-episode initial order; if it is a success, the network will order ninety more (following the same structure as Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management, also on FX).
Grammer’s Starz series, Boss, was canceled last year after two seasons, and Lawrence’s most recent CBS pilot was not ordered to series, leaving both stars free to join the new show. They are excited to be working with one another: Lawrence has said that they “have a great time together,” while Grammer describes his co-star as “arguably one of the funniest men alive.”
Lionsgate Television President Kevin Beggs recognized an “immediate rapport” between the two talented stars. Hopefully that same chemistry will translate well to the screen, making this unexpected duo a recipe for success.
