Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) will star in a live action-film and an anime series based on BRZRKR, a comic series he co-created for BOOM! Studios, according to Variety. The comic series’ first issue has sold over 615,000 copies since its launch on March 3, making it the highest-selling comic debut in nearly 30 years.
Reeves co-authored BRZRKR with Matt Kindt, the New York Times bestselling author of comic Mind MGMT. Ron Garney, known for his work with Marvel, illustrated the comic, with colors by Bill Crabtree, lettering by Clem Robins and character designs and covers by Rafael Grampá.
“BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages,” according to the Netflix press release.” “The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.”
The live action film will be released first, with Reeves starring as B. Reeves will reprise his role as B in the anime afterward, voicing the character.
Reeves will also produce the projects. In addition, Ross Richie and Stephen Christy of BOOM! Studios, which has a first look deal with Netflix, will produce, alongside Stephen Hamel of Company Films. BOOM!’s Adam Yoelin will executive produce.
Reeves will begin work on John Wick 4 this spring, having recently wrapped up on Matrix 4, according to Deadline.
