In a shocking Tweet posted on Monday, famous comedian, Kathy Griffin (Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List), revealed that she has lung cancer and will be undergoing surgery in the coming days. The procedure will remove part of her left lung where the cancer had formed, but she is expected to make a full recovery, thankfully.

Via Consequence, the Tweet showed Griffin’s optimism despite her diagnosis. “The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung,” she wrote. The famous comedian then added, “Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less.”
It is great to see Griffin in good spirits despite the severity of the situation. In an interview with ABC News, she gave a run down of how the diagnosis came to be. A routine checkup at the doctor revealed a mass in her lung, detected years ago, had doubled in size. “It gets X-rayed every three years and hasn’t grown,” she recalled, “so [the doctor] said, ‘Well, this time, it grew.’”
The horrifying story really shook Griffin who later on in the interview stated, “I’m still a little bit in shock. Not denial, but… once a day, I’ll just turn to, like, nobody next to me and go, ‘Can you believe this shit?’”
It has been a rough couple of years for the famous comedian who was attempting to make a comeback in the comedy world. After multiple misguided jokes led her to being bashed on all sides, Griffin had her troubles with suicide and addiction. Her road to recovery has been inspiring to many.
Let’s hope the cancer diagnosis does not require anymore treatment, and Griffin can get back on track with her recovery.
