The Apple original series Truth Be Told is getting a new cast member. It was announced Friday that Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) will be joining the show in its upcoming second season. She will be co-starring with Octavia Spencer (Self Made) via The Hollywood Reporter.
Truth be Told is a crime thriller and was one of Apple’s first original series to air on the streaming service. Debuting in 2019, the first season consisted of eight episodes. The series stars Spencer as Poppy Parnell, an investigative journalist who host’s a popular true crime podcast. Years after she’s helped solve a particularly brutal murder, she has to reckon with the fact that she may have sent an innocent man to jail.
The series’s first season starred Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as Warren Cave, the convicted murderer who may or may not be innocent. Lizzy Caplan (Castle Rock) portrayed twins Josie and Buhrman whose father was the murder victim. It also featured Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds), Ron Cephas Jones (This is Us), and Michael Beach (Sons of Anarchy) as Poppy’s husband.
Hudson’s casting in Truth Be Told marks her first series regular role on television. She had a guest star appearance as a college professor in several episodes of Glee in its fourth season. In the upcoming season, Hudson will portray Mica Keith. A lifestyle guru, Keith is a friend of Poppy’s who becomes involved in a new case she’s working according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Because of its popularity amongst viewers, Truth be Told was renewed for a second season after originally being ordered as a limited series. In addition to starring in it, Spencer also serves as an executive producer. It was created by Nichelle Trample Spellman (Justified) who’s also an co-executive producer. Truth Be Told’s first season was based on the novel Are you Sleeping by Kathleen Barber, and it was announced that for season two there will be a fresh storyline.
