Former Jon & Kate Plus Eight mom Kate Gosselin filed for a lawsuit against her ex-husband Jon on Monday, explains The Hollywood Reporter
The lawsuit filed accused Jon Gosselin of stealing Kate’s hard drive and hacking into her phone and computer to get material for a tell-all book.
According to the federal lawsuit, Jon accessed email and bank accounts to obtain private information for a book titled Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World.
The 2012 book was written by Jon’s friend and business partner, tabloid writer Robert Hoffman. The book was pulled from the market after two days due to the illegal way in which the information for the book was obtained.
“Jon violated a federal anti-hacking statute in order to publish salacious, scandalous and defamatory information about Kate,” Kate’s lawyer A. Jordan Rushie said. “It’s damaged her reputation.”
The couple previously starred in the TLC series Jon & Kate Plus Eight, a reality show that detailed the lives of the parents of twin girls and sextuplets. The two separated in 2009 and later divorced.
The lawsuit accuses Jon of identity theft, wiretapping and invasion of privacy. Hoffman is also named as a defendant. In addition to the most recent lawsuit, the Gosselins have been in a series of legal problems over the past few years, including custody battles, speeding tickets and break-ins.
